CAP

What is the CAP program?

The global business of food production is the largest and most diverse industry in the world. It is one that is continually evolving to create and implement new technologies in an endless quest to provide the world’s growing population with high quality, affordable food. From the laboratories of multinational corporations, to the floor of the machinery manufacturing plant, to the farm gate, the food production system offers a wide variety of exciting and challenging careers.

The University of Saskatchewan’s Certificates in Agriculture Program (CAP) can help you get established in this fast paced, dynamic industry. This unique, award-winning, distance-delivered program lets you study where and when it’s convenient for you.

You can choose from two unique streams of study in the CAP program - the Crop Production Certificate (approved as preparation for the Certified Crop Advisor [CCA] exams) and the Farm Business Management Certificate. To receive a certificate you must complete five core courses and two elective courses (seven courses in total).

Certificate in Crop Production
The Crop Production Certificate (CPC) is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of the agronomy involved in crop production. You will learn about the scientific principles of plants and soils as well as the complexity of managing a system subject to numerous limiting factors such as the environment, insects, weeds and disease. You will also learn how proper management strategies of these limiting factors can be used to achieve optimum agricultural production. See the course information link under “current students” to obtain specific details on each of the courses.

Certificate in Farm Business Management
The Farm Business Management Certificate (FBM) focuses on the business and management of crop production. You will be introduced to the fundamental principles of economics, accounting, marketing, and finance and understanding how to integrate and apply them to agriculture production.
